Originally from Liverpool in the UK, I've spent much of the past decade living in Kenya. Ulaini began as what we call a side hustle here — just me, a 1980s sewing machine kindly gifted to me, and baby quilts made for friends.

It didn't take long to realise I couldn't sew fast enough to keep up. Today many of our quilts are proudly produced by skilled local tailors in Nairobi. Their expertise has let Ulaini grow into different quilt sizes, children's clothing and accessories, while our baby quilts remain the heart of the brand.

I find sewing with bright, playful children's prints far more joyful than anything else — and that joy runs through everything we make.
